The Steyning Downland Scheme
The Steyning Downland Scheme is a good example of community participation in informal learning activities. Bird and botany surveys, The Big Picnic, and bushcraft days provide a fun place to learn through activities, and an active partnership with Steyning Grammar School has led to conservation days and summer time Discovery Days for students. This scheme alone has engaged more than 100 volunteers and 800 people attended events in 2011/2012. This demonstrates the level of engagement in informal learning and capturing interest within the community. (Source: Project Manager, Steyning Downland Scheme, 2012)
