The term ‘sheltered accommodation’ is used to describe any accommodation unit which provides a level of care and support to the occupant. In this instance it includes sheltered housing, rented retirement homes and assisted living units. Generally this type of accommodation is available to those aged 55 and above although the majority of residents are above the age of 65.
